Out of Afrika Child
Sponsorship
Out of Afrika’s child sponsorship program unites children in need with
individual sponsors who wish to address the children's immediate, basic and
educational needs.
Education is a basic right for children everywhere and of vital importance
for the development of a country. Education will revolutionize a child's
whole life, bringing a permanent change to the child and their entire
family. Education will also begin to remove the curse of poverty from the
country.
Children's
rights should not have to depend on the economic capacity of their parents.
The right to a good education is the most fundamental right of a child.
Unfortunately due to poverty many children miss out on an education. Parents
or guardians are expected to provide everything from classroom construction,
to books and uniforms for their child, as well as maintenance of the school.
Consequently many parents simply do not have the money to send their
children to school.
Many Kenyan families are subsistence farmers and for those lucky enough to
have employment earn very little. Out of Afrika aims to link sponsors with
needy children, many of whom are orphans, to enable them to continue their
education.
Sponsor a Child today
The costs of sponsoring a primary school child is £15 a month and
secondary school is £20 a month.
This amount covers school fees, uniform, shoes, home clothes, books,
stationery, part medical costs and basic/general needs for the child.
There are many ways you can help vulnerable children and families. Many of
our supporters choose to support our work with a regular gift. Donations via
Direct Debit enable us to respond quickly and efficiently.
Out of Africa Online Shop
Should any sponsor want to order a gift for their sponsored child, they can do so by ordering through OOA online shop, you can pay by credit or debit card through paypal or by sending an email to Julie@outofafrika.org with your request. This allows sponsors to choose a gift from OOA online gift shop in the knowledge that these gifts will be bought in Kenya and given out to your child and family before Christmas.

Below is a breakdown of how primary and secondary school children benefit
from sponsors donations.
Primary School
Uniform – dress/shorts/blouse/pullover/shoes/schoolbag/textbooks/storybooks
stationery/ exercise books/pens/pencils and extra tuition
We also provide a lunch for those children who otherwise wouldn’t have a
meal. Sometimes that lunch may be the only meal they have in a day.
The children are individually assessed to find out their needs and often we
provide extra food to the families, mosquito nets, beds, mattresses, bedding
and other basic necessities.
Secondary School
School fees, examination fees and other educational material
Uniform – dress, trouser/blouse/pullover/school bag/shoes
If you have any questions please call us on (Tel 01202 694492) and we will
do our best to help.
Textbooks provided by the government are not enough for every child. They
are shared between several children. This means not every child will carry a
book home and so no homework can be done. The only books provided by the
government are the course books for English, Maths and Kiswahili. The
guardian is expected to provide the rest and if they are unable to the child
will have to do without.
Since OOA educational sponsorship started we have seen many children go up
to High School and some of them have been admitted to some of the best high
schools in Kenya.
For those leaving High School with a good grade (C+ or above) and who meet
our selection process there is the opportunity for them to continue at our
college, International Centre of Technology where there is a choice of
academic courses or vocational skills training.
